Girls In The Garden: A New Pilot by The Wild Remedy

We are thrilled to share exciting news about a new pilot initiative that The Wild Remedy has been commissioned to undertake by the Association of Bloomsbury Squares & Gardens and Camden Parks. 'Girls In The Garden,' brought about by an introduction that came through Natural England’s Regional Health Lead. This pilot consists of a series of five workshops aimed at connecting girls to nature using their local parks and open spaces. The goal is to inspire and engage girls and women from the local area, encouraging them to feel safe and spend time outdoors whilst connecting with nature.

First Workshop: Self-Care with Nature

The inaugural workshop, "Self-Care with Nature," took place on May 29th, 2024, at the beautiful Brunswick Square Garden in London. Blessed with perfect weather, the event was set under a magnificent tree canopy within the tranquil Brunswick Gardens. The setting provided a serene and inspiring backdrop for the participants to unwind and connect with nature.

Designed by The Wild Remedy, the workshop focused on teaching the girls about fresh and natural ingredients that could be used to create self-care herbal products. The attendees were guided through the process of making their very own herbal bath salts and sprays whilst being able to hold conversation with each other and meet other females. They also had the opportunity to choose and drink freshly made herbal tea from a selection of herbs in clay pots that adorned the workshop table.

An Immersive Experience

The display of natural ingredients and the delightful aromas and scents filled the air, attracting a lot of interest from passersby. Many stopped to learn more and even joined in, adding to the workshop's vibrant and inclusive atmosphere. The experience allowed the girls and women to relax, be present, and immerse themselves in the therapeutic process of creating something with their hands.

To capture the essence of the day, A'level Photography student from the The Frances Bardsley Academy for Girls was on hand. Her project on 'overconsumption' aligned perfectly with the workshop's theme, providing a thoughtful and artistic documentation of the event.

Feedback & Future workshops

The feedback from the first workshop was overwhelmingly positive. Participants appreciated the opportunity to engage in a calming and creative activity in such a lovely setting. Many expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming workshops, eager to continue exploring and connecting with nature in their local parks and the sense of community it created.
